December 1, 2010

Last November 26, 2010, I woke up earlier than usual, around 5:00am.

This was the first day of the 2010 Warhammer 40 Grand Tournament, to be held at Glorietta 4 Art Space.

Getting ready for the event, I had a full breakfast and left for the battle bunker to pick up my Witchhunter army.

I check the bags for each item that is essential for the tournament. Dice, templates, army book, 3 sets of armylist, a set of printed missions.

I was hopeful to be able to play well this year. As the excitement grew, I pack all the bags in the car and head for my office in Makati City.

My office is located at 71-79 Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, corner Filmore street, Makati City. Cash and Carry Supermarket and Mall is just around the corner. It would only take me 15 minutes to get from my office to Glorietta 4.

I arrived at the office around 7:30am. Opened up the gate and all the air conditioner and computer servers. Lights went up and went straight to my desk.

I took my army bag up and made a final check of my Witch Hunter army. I found out the Inquisitor model was not painted properly and only based color in black.

I had still two hours to spare so I started to paint the entire model white and decided just to use washes on the model.

As it turned out, time passes so fast that it was almost 10am when I had just finish washing it with red and blue washses.

Quickly and excitedly, I raced down the flight of stairs and went straight to the parking area.

I took my trusted employee with me to drive me to Glorietta 4 entrance so I do not need to park the car myself saving me some time.

As we turn left off Filmore street crossed Buendia and planned to take a left Finlandia street, the traffic turned out to be heavy. I decided to push towards Glorietta 4 via South Super Highway, take the clover leaf and head towards Edsa and Ayala.

To my utter dismay and cause my blood to rise, the entire South Superhighway up to Edsa is totally jump pack with cars, container trucks and buses. To make matters worse it was moving at a slow pace. After 30 minutes I kept calling Henri Tecson and texted him and Ian Siongco alternately on whats happenning. But with the excitement of the Grand Tournament and thier responsiblity of officiating the tournament, I did not get a single reply.

With a heavy heart, we had to turn back towards Sen Gil J Puyat(Buendia Ave) via Evangelista Street in Pasay City.

It took us another 30 minutes to go back where we started and passed by Finlandia street crossed Buedia toward Makati Medical City. As we turned right on Ayala, traffic eased up a bit.
My blood pressure was rising and the thought of not being able to play and participate in the Grand Tournament was on my mind.

I finally arrived Glorietta 4 and just to find out I forgot to check where the actual location of the tournament will be held.

With the guard checking the bag, I ask about the NG tournament and he mentioned it was on the 3rd floor Art Space area.

The tournament already started and it seemed all the tables were taken already. Henry and Ian told me that 22 players where in attendance and I would be playing Bye.

It was a sad day for me for being late to arrive.

If I joined the tournament the number would be odd and it would ruined the parings since a bye would automatically be a minor win. I decided it was not meant to be for me to play at the GT this year. I politely told Freddie Tan, Henri Tecson, and Ian Siongco that it would be better I passed so to make it easier for the organizers to do the pairings.

It was great to see the number of people participating the tournament has increased this year.

The consolation was that Freddie Tan invited a cosplayer of a Sister of Battle Seraphim. We took pictures of entire group with the Sister of Battle. It was not entirely a bad day.

Next time, I better make sure I would leave earlier for the Warhammer 40 Grand Tournament in the year 2011.

Hello everyone,

First, apologies for not updating the blog. Too many stuff going on at the same time.

Here we have the pictures of the tournament, Shadows of the Warp.
I will be posting the results of the the first game as soon as possible.

It was a great to see all the newbies and veterans together in an environment of confrontation.

The veterans shows great gaming ethics which should be an example to all our newbies.

After this tournament ends, there will be a lot less newbies for sure.

Shadows of the Warp Part 1

Shadows of the Warp

Warhammer 40K mini tourney. 500 points 4x4 table.
When:Starts on September 14 every Tuesday nights up to October 5, 2010.
Venue: RHGC Battle Bunker
Time:6:00pm to 12:00pm
Each participant may schedule a game time for that night. One game per night.
TO reserve the right to change opponent as schedule permits.

Entrance fee 300 pesos (free food and drinks included).

All armies are acceptable as per Warhammer 40k rulebook and FAQ.
All contestants should bring thier own codex and FAQ.
All participants must prepare their list for the TO and opponents.
All rules and event details are subject to change.

We encourage veterans should have painted armies. All newbies are allowed unpainted armies but must models must be presented properly.

This tournament will be included in RankingsHQ under Rolling Hills Gaming Club(Philippines). Any tournament over 12 player , a payment of USD1.50 cents is charged. Entrance fee will be adjusted if we have more than 12 players.

***DEPLOYMENT

To determine deployment zones, both players should roll a die and add the two results together to find the total, and then consult the Deployment chart. Once the type of deployment zone has been determined, each player rolls a die and the player with the highest roll may choose which deployment zone to set up in.

SETTING UP OBJECTIVE MARKERS

Each player takes turns placing their objective markers. Each player rolls a die to determine who places a single marker first, with the winner getting to choose first or second placement. Each player must place one objective marker within their deployment zone and one in the No Man's Land outside both deployment zones. These objective markers must be farther than 6" from any table edge, and no closer than 18" to another objective marker. The players alternate deploying their objective markers until all four of them are placed. After all markers have been placed, each player rolls a Scatter dice for their markers, on a 'hit' result the marker will remain where it was placed, otherwise roll a single dice for the number of inches the marker scatters. Note that markers may scatter out of deployment zones and may end up within 18" of each other after they scatter. Players should keep in mind that you will be randomly determining (explained below) which, if any, of the objective markers you will need to control to win the game. Placement of markers is crucial, as you may end up defending the markers you place, and likewise you may be assaulting the enemy's. It would be wise to place markers in a position where they cannot be easily captured by the enemy, but could potentially be defended by you.

CONTROLLING OBJECTIVE MARKERS

Many of the scenarios used, require you and/or your opponent to control various objective markers at the end of the game. To control an objective you must have more models than the enemy within 3" of the objective (measured from the exact centre of the marker) at the end of the game. Models who are broken or falling back may not be counted for the purpose of controlling objectives. Non-transport vehicles with a base front Armour Value of 12 or more count as two models for the purpose of controlling objective markers. Multi-wound models such as Ork Nobs still count as a single model for this purpose. Additionally, any unit that specifically states that it may not hold table quarters or objectives (such as Nurglings) obviously cannot control an objective marker.

SCENARIO MISSIONS

After terrain and objective markers are set up, it is time to determine what your orders are. Each army will have orders from their high command detailing what their purpose on the battlefield will be. These may or may not be the same as the enemy and may or may not affect what your enemy does during the game. Each player should roll two dice, add the results, and consult the Scenario table to determine their mission. Both players should tell each other which mission they rolled. In addition to the basic objectives needed to achieve victory, the mission you roll may also offer additional rules, such as Infiltrate or Deep Strike, that are in effect for your army. Since each player rolls separately, any special rules for their mission apply ONLY to their army and not their opponent's force. This means that one army may have the ability to use deep striking units such as Terminators, while the other army may only have the option of infiltrators or no special rules at all. These rules are detailed in the Mission chart.

In addition, one of the players will roll a die. On a roll of 5+ Escalation as per the Universal Special Rules will be in effect. This will affect both players.

GAME LENGTH

All games have a fixed length of six turns. Exceptions are armies that may vary game length

VICTORY CONDITIONS

If one side completes all of their objectives while the opposing player has achieved half or none of theirs, then the game is a major victory. If one side completes half of their objectives while the opposing player has achieved none of theirs, then the game is a minor victory. If both players have achieved either all, half, or none of their objectives, then the game is considered a draw.

Edited: 9/7/10: Have FUN!!! All games must be played out until end of last turn or stopped by the TO. It is very much frown upon when players just give up and let the opponent get all the points in a match. TO has the right to disqualify or give a penalty in points to both players for conceding a match.

Participants will be matched using modified Swiss Style Draw. The First Round pairings will be determined by the Umpire, utilising whatever arcane methods he devises.

ASSASSINATE
Your army has been given strict orders to assassinate the enemy command in order to cause disarray and hopefully rout the opposing army.
Objective 1: You must destroy the enemy general. If a player has more than one HQ choice that may act as the general, they must nominate before the game which model is their general.
Objective 2: You must control any one enemy objective marker.
Special Rules: Deep Strike, Infiltrate

SABOTAGE
Equipped with explosives, your army has been tasked with the thankless job of sabotaging enemy objectives, be they fuel dumps, ammunition tenders, or monoliths to the dark gods.
Objective: You must destroy both enemy objective markers in close combat. Every non-vehicle infantry unit carries the charges for this task but you can only use them to destroy enemy objective markers. To destroy an objective, you must end your movement in base-to-base contact with it and spend your entire assault phase doing nothing other than setting the charges. At the end of your assault phase, the objective is destroyed. The destroyed objective marker may not be controlled by either side and should be removed from the table after the assault phase.
Special Rules: Infiltrate

LIGHTNING RAID
By concentrating your attack, you hope to push through the enemy lines and strike deep in enemy territory.
Objective 1: You must have two units above 50%, or two mobile vehicles, in the enemy deployment zone at the end of the game.
Objective 2: You must control any one enemy objective marker.
Special Rules: Deep Strike; Infiltrate

FOOTHOLD
Orders are clear: secure a path through the enemy lines in this sector so that reinforcements may break through and carry the battle to the enemy.
Objective: You must control both enemy objective markers.
Special Rules: Deep Strike; Infiltrate

HOLD OUT
Your army finds itself pinned down by suppressing fire. As the opposing force approaches, you hope to simply hold out long enough for fresh reinforcements.
Objective: You must control both of your own objective markers.
Special Rules: Deep Strike

FIREBASE
Often during the heat of battle, exact and precise orders are impossible to follow. Finding yourself under the heel of the enemy, you strive to take whatever land you can during the ensuing combat.
Objective: You must control any two objective markers.
Special Rules: None

BRIDGEHEAD
Your army has been tasked with securing a foothold on this territory. By controlling this bridgehead, you hope to provide a clear route to allow the rest of your forces through to assault the enemy.
Objective 1: You must control any one of your objective markers
Objective 2: You must control any one of the enemy objective markers.
Special Rules: Infiltrate

RESCUE
Your army has been ordered to rescue a vital military item from the battlefield. This could be a wounded soldier, military documents, or intelligence. Whatever the item may be, you must secure it and ensure its safe extraction from the battlefield.
Objective 1: You must rescue one strategic military item. To rescue the item, any non-vehicle unit in your army must spend one full Movement phase in base to base with an enemy objective to recover the data, gather information, etc. Once this has been achieved the item is considered 'rescued'.
Objective 2: You must control any one of your own objective markers.
Special Rules: Infiltrate

UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE
Contact with high command has been broken. Your exact orders may or may not have been determined correctly. Without further contact, you find yourself forced to work with the last intelligible message you received, praying that the mission is somehow a success.
Objective: You must control two randomly determined objective markers to win the game. Randomise by numbering the markers one to four then rolling a dice. On a roll of a 5 or a 6 you may choose which of the objective markers to control.
Special Rules: Deep Strike

HOLD THE LINE
The enemy is pushing into your territory. You hope to stop their advance in order to prevent further attacks.
Objective 1: You must have more friendly units than enemy units in your own deployment zone at the end of the game.
Objective 2: You must control one of your own objective markers.
Special Rules: None

BOMBARDMENT
You have your opponent pinned down. The distant support weapons of your heavy artillery rain a constant hail of high explosive death upon the beleaguered enemy. The pure definition of war lies before you, grind your opponent into the dirt.
Objective 1: You must reduce all enemy units to under 50%.
Objective 2: You must control one of your own objective markers.
Special Rules: Preliminary Bombardment

August 24, Tuesday Night Gaming

Last Tuesday night saw us playing a mix of Fantasy and 40k. Wiley got to reach 2k points! Congrats man! I had the honor of playing his first 2k pt game, and we each garnered a win against each other (I beat him in a battleline fight and he captured the watchtower from me). We also had an unofficial game that took place before the other two games, where he had Mannfred Von Carstein misfire AND miscast with Purple Sun, which accidentally tore open a fabric in reality that destroyed his general (Mannfred) and his entire Grave Guard regiment in a single turn. This all happened at the top of the first turn. It was hysterical and we chose to start over as it was simply bad luck that brought about that drastic result. Dabbling in Death Magic = bad.

Jay managed to score a solid victory against Zeb with Tzeentch, beating down the terminators with a fusillade of gunfire and Tzeentchian maneuvering. I sadly didn't get any details on this game.

I got to play Jay later on though, and was able to score a lucky win as a rhino charged in to claim one of his objectives at the last turn! The rest of the battlefield was strewn with the bodies of Khorne's followers, as the Thousand Sons tore them to bits. Blood for the Blood God!

Anyways, there's a Night of Spears finale coming up tonight, so we're hoping to see more grand battles take place!

Of Blood and Wolves (August 22, 2010)

First and foremost, I would like to thank all the people who could attend the tournament today. I believe everyone had a great time and I'm going to miss you guys. I've had a great 4 month vacation, and I won't forget the Tuesday nights at the Bunker or the Saturday afternoons at Galleria. I'll be back this December to wage war in the name of Khorne (and/or Gork (or Mork)) once again, but until then, I hope you guys have a great time on and off the gaming tables.

But most of all, I'd like to thank my dad for hosting the tournament. It was really nice of him to organize this get together. I'm truly blessed.

Anyways, about today, I had to face three Space Wolf Armies. I had the honor to play against Henri, Ronald, and Jeff in that order. All three of them played very differently, with Henri's Skyclaw Lord, Ronald's Drop Pod Wolves, and Jay's elite Thunderwolf Cavalry, it almost felt like I had played against very distinct armies (although Grey Hunters were presented en masse in all incarnations).

Arvin made amazing missions, not to mention the mission and army composition stipulations that challenged people to use units that were not commonly used and focus more on troops. I even had to use Chaos Spawn just to get a Fast Attack choice in (yes aren't really worth anything, they were really just there to die).

The games were all great, all tons of fun, and learning experiences all!

I got lucky. Everyone had a good time, it was an awesome day.

I don't have all the results with me, but here's my take on my experiences in tonight's tournament:

Kharnogar had battled Space Wolves as an aspiring champion in the past, but he had not anticipated such a high concentration of them in a single sector. The Space Wolves gave his warhost much trouble in their advance, but he cared not. His warrior's pride gave him much satisfaction in facing warriors of such ferocity and savagery, and his face twisted into what passed for a grin amongst his kind. Khorne had granted him a vision a month before, a vision that almost drove him mad with anticipation. He had been tasked by the Blood God himself to defeat a foe that almost matched them in savagery, and he intended to deliver lest the Flesh Hounds are set loose upon him.

They had battled long and hard, but the prize his warband had sought was within reach. They had defeated the Space Wolves that came in with jump troops, and were pushed back when their drop pods made planetfall, but now they saw the Wolf that stood out amidst the pack: The Alpha Wolf has taken to the field.

The battlefield was strewn with craters left as footprints of the Imperium's orbital bombardment. Kharnogar held his Siegebreakers back, knowing full well that after they battered the earth, the pack would move in for the kill.

He knew his men well, for they had been together for millenia. His berserkers stood at the hill overlooking what would become the bloodiest field in the sector, shuddering with barely controlled rage, stomping on the ground or grinding their chain weapons against skulls taken from earlier battles. If the wolves didn't show up, he knew it wouldn't be long before his own men's blood rage would get the best of them and they'd be killing each other. He had almost wished they would so that he would have a reason to start the killing as well, but he fought back the sensation, knowing full well that the Blood God was watching.

Then, as the smoke from the bombardment cleared, he saw them. Charging forward without any sign of a strategy or formation, the Sons of Russ barreled toward the Siegebreaker's line. A figure riding the biggest wolf Kharnogar had ever seen let loose a howl that would have shaken him to his very soul had he still had one. The maddening howl was joined by several others. The Wolves have taken to the field.

Not to be outdone, he let loose the warcry that has been a prelude to every battle, every victory, every slaughter. Kharnogar raised his twin chainswords into the air and screamed, "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!" He was joined by his men as they met the Wolves charging downhill. In a matter of moments however, the battle cries were eventually overpowered by the sounds of buzzing chainsaws and the bark of bolter fire.

Kharnogar's retinue had been broken and bled. The lesser demons were banished by the Fenrisian elite, and his own berserkers were cut down by this warrior without peer. He threw his demons and his men at the jaws of the wolf, and when he saw their pathetic inability to slay him, he threw himself at the creature, knowing that it was only who could finally down the warrior.

He raised a battle cry and charged with both blades held in arms outstretched, each step bringing him closer to the slaughter. The Wolf Lord had just torn the heart out of a berserker when he noticed the Chaos Lord tearing his way across the battlefield to get to him. The warriors met each other's gaze and the Wolf Lord howled as he kicked his wolf into a counter charge.

Kharnogar swung at the Wolf Lord, who blocked and almost disarmed him with a strike from his storm shield. A claw came down at him and tore his shoulder pad off, but the Champion of the Blood God was undaunted. Using the weight of the blow against him, he batted his chainsword against the claw and tore the wolf lord off his mount, which attempted to pounce on him but was greeted by a chainsword swing to the throat, ending the giant wolf's service to his master.

The Wolf Lord howled with rage, bearing his fangs and charging with such fury it felt as the area shuddered with each step. Kharnogar mirrored his adversary, raising his voice and meeting his claws with his blades. Every blow that connected seemed to cause the atmosphere to shatter, each wound inflicted seemed to portent the end of all things. The warriors battled as if their gods were watching, both redefining the very meaning of fury.

Kharnogar's every strike was countered and met with an almost eerily opposite reaction, and he could not help but feel that they were both reveling in the exchanges. Suddenly, the wolf throws his shield at him, an unexpected but imaginable move on the Khorne Lord's part, and knocks one his chainswords away, leaving him to face the wolf with a single blade. He understood the message: There would be no more parrying, no more blocking, for now only killing blows were a welcome contribution.

They stared each other down for what seemed like an eternity, and when the psychological tension had cleared, each prepared to deal a killing blow. The Wolf Lord raised a claw, attempting to slash down at Kharnogar and take his head off with a clean swipe. Seeing this coming, the Chaos Lord brought his sword down at the wolf's claw arm, slicing it clean off. The Wolf Lord howled with rage, giving his enemy the opportunity to deliver a death blow. Gripping the chainsword with both hands, Kharnogar swung the blade with such force that when it met with the wolf's neck it came clean off.

He gave a silent praise to Khorne as he picked up the wolf lord's head, part of him taking pity that he would never again cross paths with such a worthy a foe. But that did not matter, for there were still many more wolves to kill. With much haste, he rejoined his warhost in routing the rest of the wolves, recovering his lost chainsword and adding a new trophy to his collection. They could not stay long; the Siegebreakers of Medrenngard had a galaxy to bleed.

August 17 Night of the Kill Team

Hey guys, it was a nice Tuesday of gaming once again! I didn't game much however, as Wiley and me were too excited in constructing our forces for a battle we have against each other next Tuesday, so we spent the whole night preparing our forces. His Vampire Counts will be hitting 2k points! I'm pretty excited about that.

The one unique game we did play was a 4 way kill team fight. I used Chaos Chosen, Pat used Death Company, Wiley used Sternguard, and Jesse used a squad of tactical marines. Needless to say the Death Company totally destroyed us, but it was an interesting and fast new mission to play.

The rules I remembered are as follows:
200 points
Each member of a squad is an independent unit
Up to three may take 1 Veteran Skill from the Rulebook each.
For multiplayer, random player order, and we roll a D6 to determine who goes first each round (Pat got a double turn and mowed my boys down to my chagrin).

It was a fun and different game, and maybe next time I won't get mowed down in a turn of shooting.

There were several Warhammer and Warhammer 40k games that were not recorded in the logbook, and we encourage people to write them so we can have them recorded here.

Anyways, after that, we had several rounds of LIAR'S DICE. It's a really fun game and Jay won quite a lot of times (Until the last game when Wiley dethrones him as the biggest liar in the group). It was tons of fun, and it surely won't be the last time this game would be played.

There were a lot of recorded games that night and it's great to see an active community come in every week. It was fun proxxying a Wood Elves army (As Wood Orks) and finally getting a win against Henri's dwarfs (who tear my orks to shreds every time we have a game).

Also, it was also cool to see Zeb score a close beat down against Doc Benj's orks. It was literally decided in a die roll as to see whether Doc's orks could run to contest another objective. Good close game!

I unfortunately did not get to closely observe other games, but I did see Ryan's Terminators going head to head against Zeb's. Logan Grimnar VS Vulkan Hes'tan was pretty epic, though the latter won (to my surprise).

The game I had against Kuneho was pretty brutal. He killed every model I had on the table, and all the assaults were really interesting to fight. Kudos to my obliterator which held off the Doom and Malantai for the entire game up until the last turn when Doom finally eats the obliterator's brains out. My berserkers killed so many tyranids but they just kept coming. A Genestealer horde is no laughing matter. Swarmlord went toe to toe against my demon prince, who died to a fearless combat resolution penalty roll. Sad, but epic.

Looking forward to the Night of Spears and the next time either my orcs or Berserkers get to wet their blades with the blood of their enemies.

Drums of War Part 4 (August 8. 2010)

The last day Drums of War that would be a prelude to the Night of Spears has come to a close with much action as usual.

There were a lot of games played. The day started off with my Orcs facing off against Henri's Dwarfs. His dwarfs beat mine in capturing the watchtower with the game ending on turn 4! There was a lot of dead orcs and dwarfs by the end of the battle, but the orcish animosity caused the army to deviate from the major objective.

Between the first and second games, Kim, Henri and I played a short round of Talisman, wherein Kim's Sorceress met an early end dying to the trap door card, which sends him into the depths of the dungeon expansion area, which slowly but surely killed the low level adventurer. Sorry Kim. That aside, Henri stole my shield (I couldn't believe it, I thought it was my Jester follower who did it!) as a thief. I was a troll and basically thumped anything that came close.

The game that followed was a grudge match between my Orcs and Jun's Chaos warriors with Chaos Sorcerer General. We played a Dawn Attack scenario where our forces were randomly deployed. My orcish horde was divided by the random deployment, but due to some lucky rolls I was able to pincer Jun's forces after battering his knights with a lot of lucky artillery fire.

Henri and Clarence played an epic War of the Beard match between the dwarfs and elves respectively. They played a Meeting Engagement battle wherein the elves used their magic acumen and volley firing bows and war machines to batter the dwarf forces, which almost took the victory, but the dwarfs took too long to get to the other side, and their close combat potential was not seen. It should be noted that Clarence casted Purple Sun (Jun and I were chanting for it) and it almost literally bit into a dwarf unit. Initiative 2 isn't cool against spells like that.

The final game was between Clarence and me. The elves basically destroyed the orcs with Teclis' amazing magic. Akham's Razor (sp?) turned the weedy elves into gods of war. I think 40 orcs died in a single combat phase. Not a single orc was left standing at the end of the day. My wyvern got shot down in turn 1.

All in all it was an amazing set of games. Hope to see you all in the Night of Spears! See you guys on the gaming tables!

That's pretty good. I saw a whole lot of games. The first one that night was between Wiley and me, Ultramarines VS Khornate Warband. The mission came from the Battle Missions Book, and Vanguard was the format chosen by the dice gods. The Ultramarines came in from the board edge while my Chaos Forces deployed amidst the three objects that were placed in the center of the table, at the center long edge of my deployment side, and somewhere 12 inches away from the center on my left flank.

The Ultramarines started out charging from the table edge, bearing their Land Raider's Assault cannon, immobilizing my land raider and destroying a lascannon. That pretty good for small rounds of fire. Blasted Mary Sues.

His assault marines came upon my left flank, and flew toward my lines. The Sternguard remained behind the landraider that rumbled down the center flank.

During my turn, I had my boys take a step back, while my landraider managed to immobilize the hiding rhino and the obliterators fired lascannons at the landraider, not doing a thing.

The next turn was more eventful as the Ultramarines reached the Chaos lines, charging a rhino and destroying it. Luckily for me, the landraider didn't do any damage this turn.

The rhino's cargo brought swift retribution to the assault marines, and if that wasn't bad enough, the Demon Prince of Khorne swept down to support them.

The terminators of the now beleaguered landraider charged out and destroyed the landraider of the Ultramarines, whose terminators in turn tore them in half in a single assault phase after shooting them down.

The Berserkers held a defensive position, out of character indeed, as the second assault squad came charging down the left flank. After defeating the berserkers, they were then counter charged by another squad of the manic warriors, led by the demon prince once more. It was pretty much a repeat of what happened earlier, only now it was evident that their forces were coming in piecemeal.

The scouts arrived on opposite sides of the board, both intending to get a bead on the objectives while the terminators and sternguard claim the center point. The scouts took refuge in a broken building, but were ambushed by lesser demons emerging them from the warp, who in that turn tore three of the five scouts into pieces, one of which was their sergeant.

They were not forgotten however, as one of the sternguard squads came over to support them and fight off the lesser demons. Tragically, they could not reach the initiates in time, as the lesser demons were just finished gutting the last scout before being shot to death by the retributive marines.

In the center, the demon prince charged the terminator squad alongside the berserkers, fresh from the battle against the assault marines. The demon prince had since then been shot by a couple of sniper shots from the scout squad mentioned earlier (which was then devoured by the demons). He and his faithful Juggernaut charged for Pedro Kantor, who died keeping the demon busy before the hammers found their marks in the demon's exposed flank. The Ultramarines finest easily dispatched the remaining berserkers, but they were beaten down to a bleading Chaplain and a lone terminator.

In the death wails of the battle, the Sternguard marched out to retrieve two of the objectives from the chaos forces. The obliterators destroyed one of the squads, but the scouts that had arrived from the other side of the table had come in their place, going to ground and making it nigh impossible to dent them as their camo cloaks made them but invisible to the eye (and demon sense apparently).

The lone terminator and his Chaplain superior were gunned down by a storm bolter and a heavy bolter, but from the surviving and largely ignored land raider which did not contribute much to the game.

The Ultramarines had claimed victory however, as the Chaos forces held one objective while the rest of them were taken by the Emperor's lap dogs. I will get my revenge Wiley! Good game!

Other games I saw were also quite impressive. Henri's Dwarven force went up against the fanatical Volkmar, who was taking orders from Freddie Yu. The Empire won that day, but a dwarf never forgets a grudge, so watch your back!

Mike fought against Jesse and Jay that night, but he wasn't too lucky as the Luna Wolves and Iyanden forces beat his Ultramarines down. Jesse them proceeded to fight Wiley, seemingly bent on revenge for his brother Ultramarine player. I wasn't quite sure of the result of that round.

Zeb's Wolf Guard faced off against Alfred's Imperial Guard. Terminators VS Tanks. I really wanted to see that fight. Kuneho tyranid swarm fought Nikki's Ork Horde.

These games should really be recorded in the log book. If there werent' any games mentioned here, I apologize.

Oh right, Pat Chua's Lizards and my Orks (It was a sea of green) fought to a draw last night, with our generals pretty much routing each others' death stars. Go go generals on large creature!

That aside, thanks for the birthday greetings everyone, it was awesome that I could spend the night playing those awesome games. Hope attendance is as good every Bunker night, take care and see you on the gaming tables!

Drums of War Part II (Sunday, July 25, 2010)

The Drums of War have sounded once again as Fantasy players have once again answered the call for WAR in the 8th Age of the Warhammer World. The tables shuddered with the battles being fought on them as armies clashed again at what was simply the beginning of Fantasy season amidst the pouring rain within our own world.

The games were long and bloody, and I had the honor of once again facing Juns' Chaos Warriors in a grudge match (the grudge was mine as he slaughtered my forces in our previous encounter). This time, we played the "Blood and Glory" mission which involved Fortitude points, and I was torn asunder once again when his Chaos Knights, which included his Battle Standard Bearer and his Chaos Lord faced off against my Orc Warboss, his Wyvern, and the Black Orc Elite. His forces routred mine with much help (which is partly but not totally the reason why I was defeated) from a nearby Banestone which gave him a +1 to wound bonus against my troops. Twenty Black Orcs fell in a single round of combat, and the Orc forces were routed in that epic final turn, leaving nothing but a rock lobba crew to carry word of the Chaos victory over the Greenskin Horde.

Jun's Chaos forces then set their eyes upon the Tomb Kings of Oberon, which he defeated through the sheer toughness and brutality of his Chaos Knights, which tore after regiment after regiment of troops. The undead fought to a man (skeleton) but could not withstand the wrath of the Chaos Gods.

Henri's dwarves were not far...and the conquering Jun set his sights there.

My orcish forces fled south upon tasting defeat, and encountered a dwarven force awaiting them there in the harsh, Khemrian sands. The mission was to claim the watch tower in the middle which would either serve as a means for the dwarves to establish a base there, or for the orc forces to finally claim a scratching post for their Warboss' pet Wyvern. The dwarves got there first, as the watch tower was first occuppied by a regiment of Slayers, the perfect troops for missions involving dying to a man. Die to a man they did as the black orcs came in and ripped them up, tearing through rank and file in the brawl within the watch tower.

On the outskirts of the tower, the warboss and his wyvern charge ahead the rest of the horde on the eastern flank, only to be beaten to the organ gun it was aiming for by a rock lobba shot from the back, allowing the wyvern to turn its sights upon the Thunderers who fled from the sight of a destroyed organ gun. The green tide advanced though the board as per the example of the Warboss, with wolf riders riding up the east and aiming for the cannon crew.

The dwarven forces rallied and advanced toward the crucial strategic point at the center of the map. They fired metal into the green tide, never quite hitting their mark but hitting something else entirely as was inevitable in the sea of bodies.

The orcs were undettered by the hail of bullets as they threw themselves into the maelstrom. The orcs on the currently successful eastern flank charged at a dwarven warrior block, only to be joined by the Warboss, his wyvern, and the wolf riders who were successful in destroying the artillery base of the dwarves. The dwarves were quickly routed, but the orcs were still in a deep mess as they would soon be confronted against the dwarven elite: The Ironbreakers.

Some say they were made of metal. Others say they broke iron with their bear hands, and could crush an orcs skull with a thwap of a finger. The spear boyz learned that at least a few of these were true as they were routed upon attempting to ram themselves against the solid iron wall that is the dwarven elite.

After battering the spear boyz, the Ironbreakers turned their sights upon the rest of the horde, and were then assaulted by the warboss, his wyvern, and the choppa boyz, fresh from their victory on the other side of the field. It was at this time that the black orcs were finally through punting the slayers off the watch tower.

In the dying wails of the battle, the Ironbreakers finally broke under the full weight of the orcish tide. The black orcs finally set their banner atop the watch tower and the wyvern finally had its scratching post.

Upon losing the battle, the dwarves retreated into the domain of Joel's wood elves, where iron and wood clashed. Wood prevailed that day, as the wood elves' arrows found their targets in the eyesockets of the near impenetrable dwarven armor, and the treemen stepped on what they could not carry.

All in all it was a fine day for wargaming, despite the rather deplorable weather.

Tuesday Night Gaming (July 20, 2010)

There was a great turn out last Tuesday night, and it is even greater that the majority of the turn out could be attributable to newer players. They stormed the desert tabletop and played multiple games of Imperial Guard VS Space Marine, literally Imperial training exercises that would get them thinking about what they would want to get out of their own armies. Many thanks to Francis for being a rule keeper for the matches. Jerrick scored a victory with the Imperial Guard, while EJ scores a win with the Space Wolves.

On the volcanic/chaos waste table, we could see Wiley and Mike pitting Ultramarine against Ultramarine. It was freaking confusing, I honestly could not tell who was fighting who in that giant mashed up melee between armies sporting similar colors.Wiley soundly beat him (I honestly could not tell who was winning though. Imperial scum all look the same to me).

Zeb and Kuneho fought, with Zeb coming out as the victor! BAM! Terminators totally pwned the nids'. Zeb beat Kuneho down 4-0 in a sieze ground battle!

I had the honor of facing Patrick's Lizardmen in a 2k point match. He had terrible rolls, and I forgot to use my Wyvern for a turn, which turned out to possibly be game-breaking. In the end however, the Green Horde (I'm talking about the Orcs as the Lizardmen were also green) was triumphant in a last turn attempt for the Warboss and the rallied Boyz to take down the 40 man (Or Lizardman) death star that has taken considerable damage from lucky rock lobba shots.

The night didn't end there however, as when Oberon arrived, there was one more match being played out, and that was between PatChua and Wiley, Lizardmen (this time sporting the Slann "Supertoad" High Priest) against the growing Vampire Counts which used the Forbidden Lore of the Beast (Vampire VS The Lizardman, sounds like a bad horror movie).

For the turns that I was able to watch, I was pretty impressed by how Wiley and Pat's magic phases were focused on turning Wiley's Vampire Lord into play-do, as it shifted in and out of Chimera Form (4D6 attacks at strength and initiative 7 you've got to be freaking kidding me). Also, Pat use of Magic Cards was helpful in identifying what unit was under what spell/hex/whatever. Those cards should be seeing more play in the future.

That was pretty cool, and overall, it's great to see a lot of potential players coming in and playing Warhammer (40k). Can't wait to face off against fresh faces. Also, I finally got to duke it out with Lizardmen, which leaves just a few other armies to face before I've finally fought each army at least once (Need to fight High Elves, Skaven, Brettonia, and Beastmen).

Drums of War Part 1! (July 18, 2010)

The Battle for the 8th Age has begun!

We learned a lot about the new rules, including but not limited to the redirection of charges, miscasting "innate" bound spells, and wheeling during charges. Armies also need to be tooled with banners now, as games with fortitude as a victory condition will be punishing to those without any.

The battles of that day fertilized the table tops of the Bunker with much blood, as the new edition saw the game to be much quicker (close combat is usually seen by turn 2), and more brutal (lots of attacks from supporting ranks).

Ronald and I chose to use the funky terrain features that were designed for 8th edition. The funkiest of them all was the "Banestone" which adds +1 to wound rolls against units within 6'' of it (The only reason I was able to stand against the ogres). Khemrian Quicksand is dangerous terrain with "instant" death to some units, I cant' quite remember which. Sigmarite Shrine (Which thankfully had no effect that game) forces units under the "Forces of Destruction" ( Chaos, DE, Skaven, Orcs, etc.) to reroll ward saves. The idol of Mork also made it possible to re-roll charge distances, a very orcy contraption indeed.

Drums of War continues next Sunday, and it'd be great to see more armies taking arms against each other in the Bunker!

Warhammer Fantasy Night (July 16, 2010)

Hey guys,

Last night the a lot of people came over to play Warhammer and Warmachine. Mike "The Champion" Nievas played his first game of Warhammer Fantasy against Wiley's zombie/Twilight Vampire Horde and learned just how different Warhammer Fantasy was from 40k.

Oberon's Tomb Kings played against Jay's Dark Elves. The game was an epic match, but Jay's sneaky superheroes(villains) won the day as Shadowblade (forgot his actual name) killed the Tomb King Heirophant AND the Tomb Prince, forcing the undead to finally feel the weight of time as their forces crumbled into dust.

Pat Chua used his Chaos Warriors against Wiley's Zombies.

I had the honor of fighting Henri Tecson once again. This is how it went, it won't be as detailed as my memory is fuzzy and I'd rather get to know the game more before going for a really detailed battle report:

Turn 1 Dwarves: Henri does not move, and chooses to begin and end with his shooting phase. His cannons roared and killed orcs from different units. A spear chukka struck my warboss on a wyvern and wounded the wyvern twice.

Turn 1 Orcs: I declare a WAAARGH and send my wyvern charging 30'' across the board, destroying Henri's dwarf warrior unit. All my other units surged forward except for my spear boyz who were fighting over what the color green was.

Magic didn't do much, as I failed to cast any spells.

Shooting was pathetic as none of my warmachines hit, and one rock lobba blew itself up.

Turn 2 Dwarves: Henri's movement only consists of turning his warmachines to face my wyvern.

Once again, it begins with shooting. Henri fires his bolt throwers, along with his engineers' pistols at the wyvern, reducing both the warboss and the wyvern to one wound each.

One of his cannons overshoots, and the other kills 3 boys. The thunderers kill 5 more from the same unit and 5 wolf riders die. They pass their panic check as they were within 18'' of my Warboss.

Turn 2 Orcs: My Wyvern charges the unit of longbeards, who fail their terror check and allowed me to charge the bolt thrower unit behind them. I pass my dangerous terrain check.

My wolf riders charge the bolt thrower, who stands and shoots with its engineer, killing neither wolf rider as I luckily made my 6+ save.

The rest of the horde moves forward. The Magic phase saw me casting "Hand of Gork", which allowed the spearboyz to move 8 inches toward the dwarven lines.

Shooting was the same, only this time the goblin doom diver destroys itself. Fail.

My wolf riders kill one artillery crew member without taking any casualties in return, while my warboss destroys the artillery crew then overruns into the goblin wolf rider's combat!

Turn 3 Dwarves: Henri chose to begin moving the hammerers on the far side of the board that didn't seem to be getting any action toward the fighting.

His cannons fired, this time missing a unit, then killing 5 black orcs. The thunderers attempt to shoot the spear boyz and the choppa boyz and kill about 2-3 each. The black orcs fail their check and run.

In close combat, the wyvern trounces the bolt thrower crew and reforms near the enemy.

Turn 3 orcs: Spearboyz move toward thunderers. The rest move forward. The black orcs do not rally even with the help of their musician.

Magic was eventful as it saw my shaman casting Hand of Gork, propelling the spear boyz into combat against the thunderers without allowing them to stand and shoot.

Shooting was better since my bolt thrower skewered three dwarves and my stone thrower was spot on the center of a dwarven block. I managed to kill 1 out of 12 hits (I rolled a 1 for my strength 9 center hole).

During the close combat phase, the spear boyz murdered the crew, then overran them.

Turn 4 Dwarves:

The dwarves turned to face the wyvern, wolf riders, and orc boys assailing their flank. The other warrior unit charges the choppa boyz.

The cannons fired at the wyvern, which finally topples the beast. The orc warboss picks himself up afterwards. Thunderers shoot at the black orcs and kill 2.

The close combat phase was terrible for the orcs, as the dwarf block routs them, breaking them with their pursue.

Turn 4 Orcs: Wolf riders charge the dwarven block. The warboss and the spear boyz turn around and move toward the warrior unit, joining up.

Shaman gains 2 power dice and fails to cast the extremely important hand of Gork spell that would've allowed the spear boyz to support the wolf riders this turn.

Shooting has the rock lobba and spear chukkas missing once again.

Close combat phase time! The wolf riders get torn apart by the dwarves, who choose to reform to face the spear boyz.

Dwarf turn 5: dwarf warrior block attempts to charge the rock lobba and fails. The warrior unit charges the flank of the spearboyz.

During the shooting phase, the orcs were shot at, but thankfully neither cannon drew a bead this turn.

During the combat phase, the dwarves and orcs each killed 5 of their opponents, with the dwarves winning combat by 4 due to charge, rank, and flank bonuses. The orcs pass the break test and pass the test to check to see if they could reform even as losers.

Orcs turn 5: The black orcs charge at the dwarven block that attemted to charge the rock lobba on the flank.

In the magic phase, the night goblin shaman casts Gork'll Fix it, turning all 6's rolled by the dwarven unit in combat with the warboss into 1's.

The shooting phase was uneventful as the goblins are still fail to hit anything.

The combat phase was brutal, as the spear boyz destroy and overrun the dwarf block that had charged them last turn.

The black orcs attack with gusto, beating the dwarves on the flank but not breaking them.

The game was over and the scores ended with a DRAW.

It was a great night that saw everyone hankering for more Warhammer Fantasy.

The Battles Amidst the Storm (July 13, 2010)

Hey guys,

Glad to see there were a lot of games that went on last night.

First off, Henri and Jay went up with a Space Wolf VS Iyanden 2k point fight.

Then, my dad(Oberon) and Felix fought Sisters VS Salamanders, with my dad winning by an objective marker as the drop pods of the Adeptus Astartes unfortunately came one by one, allowing the sisters to concentrate their fire against just one or two squads a turn.

I myself was fortunate enough to play three games last night, all of which were glaringly fast.

My first game was against Pat Chua's Chaos Space Marines Undecided Cult list, wherein I was able to score a lucky draw because his first three turns of shooting did nothing (Or because Khorne was protecting my troops from everything). I am scratching the "kill two Slaanesh Demon Princes in a fight" addition to the "Kill List." Lesser Demons killed one of the demon princes. How embarrassing. I can admit however, that there was a lot of bad luck on Pat Chua's part, and we decided to play on and see who would win if we had reached turn 6. After another turn of battle, we decided that Pat would win on kill points, so I was sorta happy the game ended when it did.

My second game was against Mike "The CHAMPIONNNNN" Nievas with his Korsaro Khan led Space Marine Army. Both of us managed to roll four ones in a row. For him, it was when he had to make armor saves for his dying, last man who was testing for his combat resolution saves after failing to escape, and for me, when I rolled for my terminator saves (I rolled each one after the other). The lone terminator that survived was clobbered to death in close combat. That was dumb. Clearly a sad day for Terminators everywhere. ONE FOR THE ONE GOOD. This however, was not as bad as Mike's units arriving on the opposite side of the table, all on turn 4. This was terrible luck on his part. Korsaro Khan screwed another hapless servant of the Imperium once again. I was not able to get KK into combat though, so nothing was added to my "Kill List."

In my last game for the night (which was also my first game of 8th edition Fantasy), I played 1k points of Orcs and Goblins against Jay's 1k points worth of Dark Elves. It seemed straightforward enough, before everything went wrong. xP

Here's how it went:

Khrag stared down at the battlefield. He didn't bring a whole lot of boyz, but they should be enough. The WAAARGH told the shaman to face off against whatever foe they could find on their way to meeting with the Warboss Bazrag Blacktoof.

"Gitstabba, anyfin' yet?" growled the shaman, growing impatient with the lack of violence, sublimating it through the coursing green energy basked his eyes in an eerie glow.

His goblin scurried into the room. "Dem pointy eared ones a' comin'. They gots a w'ayvern with many 'eads boss. Maybe we oughta meet up wiff da Warboss befo-"

Khrag's staff cackled with green WAAARGH energy as he tore the goblin apart with a quick zzap of WAARGHness. "No gobbos eva gon' tell me wot ta do! We Blacksunz'll show dem elfies who da baddest in da Badlands iz!"

Orc Turn 1: The entire Orcish force moves forward. The spear boyz failed an animosity check and squabbled over what color they thought the sky was. They couldn't decide if it was blue, orange, purple or black as they were too stupid to account for the change in the sky's color as the day went by. The goblin wolf riders marched toward the dark riders on the western flank, preparing to charge the turn after.

I rolled 7 for my power dice, and decided not to cast any spells because all I had were WAARGH and Bash'em Ladz, both of which were not useful as I had nothing in close combat.

The goblin doom diver fires at the Corsairs, killing 4 of their number.

DE Turn 1: Jay chooses not to move anything besides the dark riders, who march out of charge range of the wolf riders.

The sorceress casts Chill Wind, killing three of the choppa boyz unit, then casts Dark Power (+D3 casting dice) and casts it with irresistible force, which in 8th ed, means a miscast. His sorceress blows herself up and wounds the hydra right beside her as he rolls a 4 in the new and more destructive miscast chart.

Orc Turn 2: I was feeling pretty confident with his general gone, so I called for a WAAARGH. Two units surged forward, the Black orcs and the Spear boyz, both of which moved and failed to charge. The goblin wolf riders marched closer to the dark riders' rear.

During my magic phase, I casted WAAARGH with irresistible force, and my black orcs and spear boys managed to get into close combat. My wolf riders rolled double 1 for distance and did not reach the dark riders. The shaman rolls on the now relatively less harmful orc miscast table and suffers a wound.

Shooting saw me shooting at the Corsairs, the only unengaged unit in his army besides the unit of dark riders. I killed two more.

Close combat was abysmal. My black orcs had 16 attacks, first strike and rerolls to hit, and killed 6. His truck back and killed 13. Black orcs were wiped out. NEVER charge Blackguard. EVER.

My spearboyz engaged the hydra, which had 7 attacks and killed all my boys because it had hatred. Then he thunderstomped and killed 4 more boyz. We came, we broke, we got run over.

DE Turn 2: All three units (Corsairs, hydra, and blackguard) charge the choppa boys, which ran from the terror causing hydra and failed to run far enough, wiping them out.

The dark riders marched toward my shaman and shot him to death.

Orcs Turn 3: Wolf riders charged the blackguard from the flank, failing their fear check and thus reducing their WS to 1.

The goblin doom diver misfires and becomes unable to fire this turn and the next.

The goblins kill 3 blackguard and lose 6 of their own in the onslaught. They break and get run down.

It was at that point that I decided the game was over, as I only had a doom diver that should wait two turns to shoot.

Khrag's head, missing an eye and all his teeth, was presented by the surviving doom diver crew unceremoniously to the Warboss. Bazrag picked his teef, not knowing what to make of this situation. He had just lost his best shaman, alongside some of his killiest boys.

"Serves that git right. E' shoulda waited fer ME! Wot 'appened?"

"Umm...boss? E' was shot in the eye, an' dem elfies tore 'is teef out too." The three goblins, one of them still wearing the doom diver wings, said this and many other accounts of the battle in unison, just as if they had rehearsed it. Each of them were sporting orc toof necklaces (Orc teeth is the currency in these societies), chained together by the thread that seemed to match the cloth used to stitch together the shaman's robe.

"Dey took 'is teef out too eh? Well, we'll jus' 'ave ta take'm back den!" The Warboss' voice boomed with almost unrestrained fury, he unconsciously picks up the goblin wearing the doom diver outfit and tosses him like a paper plane at his wyvern, which was delighted to finally get something to eat.

"You gobbos betta get my other shaman, I need'z ta round of some boyz! It's time for the Blacksunz ta get ta killin!"

Good game Jay! I learned a lot. Charging a unit of black guard is like charging the embodiment of eternal abuse. Never charge them, and always shoot them first. XP Also, I actually need to think more because I'm no longer leading an army of super elite genetically enhanced blenders with legs, so charging gung ho all the time ain't going to work.

It's a whole new battle, can't wait to play more of it. Ingats guys, see you on the battlefield.

PS: Miscasts are awesome. I read on Dakka Dakka that the biggest improvement to the orcish army was that the miscast table was relatively tamer.

The 8th Age is Upon Us (July 9, 2010)

Hey guys,

We had a lot of players last friday. A lot played Talisman, and Ryan and Wiley went head to head in a 40k Salamanders VS Ultramarines fight. I proxied an army of Orks and went against Pat Chua's Blood Angels force. The orks were really lucky, and I managed to pop both land raiders with lucky power klaw shots, but the day went to the Red Power Rangers with tear drops and wings as they eventually overpowered the orks in close combat. The highlight of the game was when a squad of orks (just 12 of them) were charged by the Sanguinor then killed him. It was amazing luck on my part that these lowly boyz killed their angel of death. XD Sorry Pat.

But of course, the main figure of me and my dad's attention that night was the one being fought on the dessert table, where Henri Tecson and Jay Morales were duking it out.

The Twin Tailed Comet has arrived. Last Friday, Jay and Henri played the first game of Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition. Cannon fire and rifle bullets shot across the tabletop as both sides attempted to tear each other apart. Without needing to guess for range, war machines tore through ranks of both dwarf and man, leaving nothing but splattered gore and the smell of gunpowder.

With the new charge rules, dwarfs were seen charging 11-13 inches, reaching their targets and tearing the forces of the empire in close combat; and with the new close combat rules, the second ranks were able to support the front fighters, leading to more casualties and a faster game.

Miners were torn apart by Hellfire Volleys, while knights charged and harried the dwarven flank. This all happened as the Thane led the dwarfs through a killing field in the center, forcing the treacherous forces of the Empire to flee before the disturbingly graceful and speedy dwarven onslaught. The dwarfs had won the center, but the empire were advancing on the flanks.

By the last turn, both sides were worn out. Casualties were heavy on both sides. Ammunition was all but spent. It was a draw at least, and at most, a Pyrrhic victory.

Though the battle was over, its death cry was echoed the many wars to come.

The game has ended, the war, just beginning.

Orcs are amassing in the Badlands, calling together new WAAARGHs. The Dark Elves are preparing fleets to assail the old world, ready to strike a blow against their much envied kin. The Skaven have been seen bellow the streets of the Old World, bursting out of craftily hidden tunnels. The Vampire Counts are tearing the dead from their graves, eager to recruit more for the coming battles. The forces of the Dark Gods have gathered in the Chaos Wastes, eager to succeed where Archaon had failed.

Ogres march from their mountainous land, eating and pillaging all in their path for some food or coin. The Lich Priests have awoken their slumbering masters from their eternal sleep, bidding them to reclaim the land that is rightfully theirs.

The Kingdom of Bretonnia rides to war, with all the colors of their houses. The doors of the dwarven holds have swung open as the stoic dwarves march to battle. The Wood Elves begin to awaken their treefolk, for the former see the smoke in the sky and hear the call to war in the winds. In the Jungles of Lustria, the lizardmen commemorate the day of the Serpent Tongued Comet that marked their salvation in ages past, and steel themselves against the possibility that they might need their gods once again. The High Elf Mages warn their kin of the upcoming war. The Empire's nobles have ceased their petty squabbles upon the realization that they are surrounded.

This is the World of Warhammer, and the dawn of the eighth age.

Hey guys,There was a lot of WAAARGH! in the bunker last tuesday, with a mix of 40k and Fantasy Wargaming.
I had the honor of fighting Mike "The Champion" Nievas in a spearhead/Take and Hold mission between my Khornate Warband and his Imperial Guardsmen. It ended in a draw because I claimed his objective and he claimed mine, which was of course, awkward as that isn't the usual result. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Also on the tables were Ernest and EJ, who played a vicious space marine VS space marine fight, with EJ earning his first win.

Brother fought against brother as Felix and Francis Lohongko fought each other with Space Wolves and Raven Guard respectively. Drop pods crashed down on the Fenrisian landscape.

Wiley managed to play two games of Fantasy, and scored a win against Henri's dwarves (and by transitive property, it means he won against me too XD), and a game against Jay's Dark Elf outriders. Although his zombie horde managed to eventually kill and overwhelm the dwarves, he was not able to shamble (Zombies only have one speed) fast enough to Jay's crossbow tottering Dark Elves who just dominated the board with effective maneuvering.
All in all, it was a great night. Can't wait for 8th edition to start playing with the revised rules.

We had a total of 7 players who participated and one had to give way. (Due to health problems and other priorities, four players did not show up).

Still we saw a lot of exciting action among the six players.

As an added bonus however, we also had the opportunity to watch Jay Estaris's Skaven army (with Plague Furnace) that wrack havoc on Henri's Empire.

After a long day of swords and spears, the players and organizers decided to join forces and assaulted Max's Fried Chicken, Chick all you can eat.

It was a one sided battle where we all won and rested on our laurels. It was a good day indeed.

THE TWIN TAILED COMET

Pointage: One army list of 2,000 points. A player may not exceed 2,000 points and may not go under 1,900 points.
Army Books: Latest edition of an army’s army book is required. No appendix army lists allowed (if applicable).
Time Limit: 2.5 hours per game, strict Dice Down rule in effect. Deployment is included in the time limit. Players with horde armies are expected to deploy faster and play faster – as a player, you adjust to the event; not the other way around.

Player Responsibilities

Players participating in the Twin Tailed Comet must bring all their own models, army books, dice, measuring devices, tokens, markers and templates they require for play.

Players must also bring at least two printed or legibly handwritten copies of their army list, complete with points cost and an army point total.

A Player is expected to take note of any Victory Points gained from special scenario objectives, slain Generals, captured standards and table quarters at the end of each game.

Conduct/Sportsmanship

Players must fully cooperate with their opponent to answer any question that arise when resolving any element of gameplay. Refusing to do so is explicitly unsportsmanlike. Players must remain courteous and patient with their opponents and the TO. The TO always has the final word on rules questions or debates. Players must accept the rulings made by the TO whether or not they agree. We assume all players are good sports who understand fair play. If a dispute arises, call the TO for assistance.

Players will remain mature, polite and fair to their opponents. Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification. A TO may eject a player for any incident that is deemed unsporting. This includes, but is not limited to, offensive or abusive conduct, bullying, cheating, constant rules arguments, stalling game play, and other immature actions. If stalling is suspected, the TO should be called to monitor play.

Dice Down

After the time limit for a match has expired, the TO calls “dice down”. When dice down is called, the current turn immediately ends. The end of the turn and game due to dice down does prompt a final iteration of scenario scoring. If the player is in the process of moving a model or unit, he finishes that movement and then the turn and game ends. If the player is in the process if making a roll of any kind, he completes that single roll and then the turn and game ends.

Best General

Best General is determined by the result of his games.

A player who has completed his games (completed the game until all rounds are finished) has precedence in this award than players who have not completed their games.

In the case of two players with the same score, one will rank higher by Strength of Schedule. The scores of the players’ opponents in the previous rounds will be added up. The player whose opponents’ total scores are higher earns the higher rank (equates to the player having fought harder opponents). On the chance that a tie still occurs, the player who has claimed more dead generals and/or standards and/or table quarters Victory Points earns the higher rank.

Best Painting

Best Painted is judged by the TO.

An army must be fully-painted and based to the TO’s judging standards in order to qualify for Best Painted. If some of the models are unfinished, the army is not qualified for this award.

A player who painted his army himself will take precedence in this category over a player who has had his army painted by another or has had assistance from others.

When asked by the TO, a player is expected to be honest with regards to painting his army. If a player wins this award and is discovered to have been dishonest with the answer, the prize must be forfeit and the player will no longer be eligible for future Best Painted awards hosted by the TO/group.

Best Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is a score given to a player by his opponents.

Players who have won Best Sportsmanship before in previous events are still eligible to win this award in this event.

Variable Game Length

A game normally consists of six game rounds, with each player receiving a turn per round. At the end of the second player’s sixth turn, there is a chance that the game may continue. Roll a d6, the game continues for a seventh round on a 4+.

The game ends at the end of the second player’s seventh turn (no additional turn will follow).

Victory Points -- All or Nothing

A player receives a number of Victory Points equal to the points value of each enemy unit destroyed.

At the end of the game, a player receives a number of Victory Points equal to the points value of each enemy unit that are fleeing or have fled off the table.

At the end of the game, enemy units that are half strength and/or multi-wound model with damage DO NOT provide Victory Points to the opponent.

Victory Points – Table Quarters

Only Controlling Units may claim the table quarters Victory Points at the end of the game.

A Controlling Unit:
• Must be at least Unit Strength 5
• Must have a standard bearer and a musician
• Must not be in base contact with an enemy unit of at least Unit Strength 5
• Must not be fleeing
• Must not be a skirmish unit

The only way to contest an enemy Controlling Unit is to engage it with a friendly unit of at least Unit Strength 5.

If a Controlling unit is found to be in more than one table quarter, randomly determine which table quarter it is on.

Victory Points – Enemy General Slain, Captured Units’ Standards, Captured Battle Standard

Follow as normal in the WFB rulebook.

Scenario 1 – Divide and Conquer

At the end of each player’s turn, starting on the first player’s second turn, either player can earn 50 Victory Points for each Controlling Unit on his enemy’s deployment zone. Note: Victory Points earned this way can be earned even on the opponent’s turn.

A Controlling Unit:
• Must be at least Unit Strength 5
• Must have a standard bearer and a musician
• Must not be in base contact with an enemy unit of at least Unit Strength 5
• Must not be fleeing
• Must not be a skirmish unit

The only way to contest an enemy Controlling Unit is to engage it with a friendly unit of at least Unit Strength 5.

When the game ends, friendly models/units within 12” of the owning player’s table edge are worth double Victory Points.

Scenario 2 – Deadly Ground

Mark the center of the table. Scenario 3 – Absolute Attrition

On the first round, spells or effects that reduce the movement of enemy models are ignored. On the first round, models/units may march even if within 8” of an enemy unit.

At the end of each player’s turn, starting on the first player’s second turn, models and units with models within 12” of their table edge are automatically removed from the game (i.e. if a the rear rank of a unit of cavalry is within 12” of the table edge, the whole unit is removed from the game; if one crewman of a war machine crew is within 12” of the table edge, the whole unit, war machine and crew, are removed from the game). Models/units removed this way count towards Victory Points for the opponent.

Victory points from destroyed Lords and Heroes are worth double. Victory Points for Enemy General Slain is also double (200 VP instead of 100 VP).

As the Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition release comes closer, RHGC decided to promote and organize a tournament for 7th Edition; it's last hurrah, The Twin Tailed Comet.

Last Friday night, we had practice games of Warhammer Fantasy in preparation for the tournament on July 4, 2010, Sunday at Glorietta 5, Makati City, in cooperation with Neutral Grounds.

Of course, the night would not have been complete without some games of Warhammer 40K.

The usual suspects played Talisman until the wee hours of the following morning.

All in all it was a good night for gaming.

Hey all!

The Spearhead Fun Tournament finally came to a surprising end. With the missions' twists and turns, with people's emotions running high, and with the look on peoples faces as they fought their own armies, it was total blast!!!

Congratulations to John Micheal Nieves for winning the tournament!

One for the One God indeed!

The pictures show how the day affected all of us in the tournament.

Here's are some interesting events that transpired during the day.

There were 16 players who came but only 7 tables were available. (7 tables was promised by Neutral Grounds).

Paulo Lapa backed out of the second game when he lost one of his Death Korps of Krieg models during the first game. He accidentally dropped the model and it rolled on the floor. He took time to finish his rolls before he went looking for it. It is good to note that finishing his rolls first was very sporting of Paulo, as he did not let his opponent wait (Jeff Jongko was his opponent). Unfortunately, he could not find his model anymore. There was too big a crowd around the tables, with Magic the Gathering and World of Warcraft card tournament being held at the same time. Paulo, decided to quit the tournament because he could not give a good game to his opponent due to the distraction of losing his Forgeworld model.

Our sympathy goes to Paulo for losing his model and our admiration for his good attitude towards gaming and feelings for his opponent.

JoJo and I were playing the first game after all the seven tables were done. It took us an hour and 15 minutes to finish the 5 turns. When the game ended, Paulo decided not to play the second game. So, we let Jojo take the number 14th slot and let him continue on to his second game. We ended up with 15 players. One had to go.

(Oh by the way, the Sisters of Battle(Witchhunter) with spearhead tank hunter consisting of 3 exorcist won over Space Marines with a seek and destroy spearhead consisting of 2 landspeeders. I did not continue to play the tournament as I told Henri that we should give other players priority to join the tournament. Only later to find out, I would have hated the second mission; facing 6 Exorcist Launchers is never a good idea.)

Henri lost his bag and with his T-shirt in it. He spent an hour looking for it alternately watching the games. Fortunately, he found it with the stuff of Neutral Grounds staff. Lesson during tournaments, make sure to look after your things, or have someone look after it for you.

The biggest twist however, that gave rise to the victory of Mike, was the addition of battle points to the game. At first, we believed that the winner of the match between Jay (With his Ultra Mega Chicken) and Patrick (With his War Puppy Titan) would be crowned the first champion of the tournament as they both had two wins to boot. However, when the numbers were added up, it became clear that Mike, who had a draw and a loss before coming into the third round would win, as the battle points he accumulated in the last round pushed him all the way to the top, surpassing the score gained by Patrick, the runner up.

And thus, the championship was claimed by the One God's avatar, who ironically complained at the last round that serving the One God did not have any benefits (moments later, Jay rolls the one that loses him the game. Had he won the game, his score would have beaten Mike's).

Looking forward to the next tournament scene.

Kindly Give your registration fee of 50 pesos initial deposit to Ian Siongco or Henri Tecson Starting on June 15 (for the south players we will be asking for Someone to accommodate the collection of 50 pesos entrance fee)

This will be the final FOC for the spearhead tournament...

1. A compulsory 1 HQ and 2 troops MUST be taken from their respective, recently printed codex.
2. There will be no FOC, so it means, anything goes. But as a reminder, as per spearhead rules, you may only have up to 1 superheavy support option as a spearhead formation; flyers are not allowed. Forge world units are allowed.
3. WYSIWYG, No proxies for superheavy support and forge world units, although scratch-building is allowed but is subjected for approval.
4. Players using Super heavy unit or forge world unit(s) MUST have their own original supplement (ie. imperial armour or apocalypse book). Players are not allowed to borrow supplements in the tournament day itself.
5. All players are required to have atleast one Spearhead formation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post it and ill answer it ASAP.
You can submit your army list to me or henri. Deadline of submission is on or before June 21,2010. Once submitted, you may only change it once and we will not acknowledge any list posted in this thread.

Attendance: Mike, Henri, Jesse, Kim, Dick, Wiley, Lito, Lance, Jeff, Fred, Jay, Owen.

Kim and Dick played Warmachine while waiting with everyone else for Jay to arrive who unfortunately got stuck in Friday night traffic.

Fortunately, we had a new set of Talisman and started playing without the dungeon expansion.

Jesse wanted to leave by 9:30 but the excitement got to him and he stayed beyond his self proposed curfew (ADDICT ADDICT).

Lance and Wiley backed out of the game after hours of game play to Warhammer 40K.

Fred arrived and Kim backed out of Talisman to play Warmachine against him.

Jay finally arrived and took over Wiley's Merchant character and Henri took over Lance Dark Cultist Character.

No doubt, the last part of the game was exciting as Jay was ahead of everyone. One by one we all fell to the powers of Jay's Merchant, who passed on to obtain the seat in the Crown.

The game started around 8:30pm and finished at 2am in the morning.

"It was the debut of WARMACHINE in Lito's Bunker. Kei Valentin and SJ Quema were supposed to join us, too, but the weather became uncooperative and they had to postpone for a later date to play. The list I brought was mediocre, the play-style I took was too cautious, not to mention Dick's and Fred's lists were tremendously hard for me to go up against, which resulted in a pretty pair of bloody losses for my Khador army. I'll take that beating and just give them my ace game again next time."
